of an insult. Bill favors a gold watch, and I guess that would be a good as anything.
This morning I took my map to school. Mr. Lease wasn’t in so I merely left it on his desk. When I came home to dinner Mother asked me if he had said anything about it, and was disappointed when I told her he hadn’t. But at noon between bells he hung it up in the room. Mary Lee had a fit over it for some reason or other, and Mr. Lease remarked to her that it was as fine as a printed map which I overheard, altho I tried to close my ears and make myself as small as possible. Another was mad because he didn’t praise it to me, but I am glad for it embarrasses me to painfulness.
Everyone is crazy about the theses; no-one knows what they want to write about. Bill had a secret conference with Miss Tate this noon about it, but when he came back he said Miss Richards was going to think up one for him. She did, - oh yes she did - several of them. The list was a crazy one, about all the crazy subjects one could think of; one was “Bees”; another was “Civil War in Literature.” Bill said the best one was “The Picture Show - Pro and Con” and that it wasn’t any good! I haven’t decided anything yet and am going to see Miss Tate about it. As soon as I get this written I am going to write for
