Here we found that King had come and had started after us. I settled down and read a treatise on oysters, which was very interesting, while Bill insisted upon making dates for me with al the “eligible” girls in town, as Mrs. Malaprop would say in the “Rivals.” He and Bud also said that when either Waldo) (as Joe Scullion says) or “Icky” Holl, who was coming to see Bud, came, I would receive a kicking. Just then Dr. Cruikshank went past and I Bill suggested that I receive it now, when surgical aid would be handy. However it was not necessary, for they did not carry out their foul threats, even if “Icky” came. At about six o’clock Mrs. Morlan brought in some pudding for us, and after we had eaten this, we got up to go. The other three were going to “League” at the Methodist Church, and wanted me to go, but I refused.
When I got home, I finished my map, and after dark, went out to take the clothes. The night was beautiful. A pale half-moon shone in the sky, and over in the west, the after glow of the sun, shone pale orange in the sky, and above it was a bright star, very big and sparkling. After I came back I started to write my diary but Edith and Jim came in with Louise and as Jim said, it was “not much to write in.”
