waylaid me in the living room and threatened to “whip me”. I ran out thru the reception hall to the kitchen, pursued by Frances, but Louise met me, having come thru the dining room and both then gave me a “good licking” ending up with a kiss.
Everything conspired to make it a day after my own heart. This morning I awoke very early, and looked out. It was a wonderful scene. Everything – ground, arbor, trees, fences, and wires, all were covered heavily with pure white snow that glittered in the light of the rising sun. Many large black clouds were hurrying across the sky, and some snow-covered wires shone like white lines against black clouds in the south west whenever shone. Occasionally fits of beautiful blue appeared among the clouds, and grew larger until there was not a cloud left to mar the clear sky. For a long time I lay in bed and reveled in the bright sunshine, the sparkling snow and wonderfully azure sky, and as I watched I wondered helplessly what that sky was, that it should set one to thinking things.
It was fun to watch the warm sun, convert the earth from January to April. As he rose higher the snow began to melt. Soon part of roofs became black and sent up clouds of steam and sparkling water dropped from the edges; trees began to drip and big
