As he went out the porch with it, John Bullard came along and demanded a share. We had to discuss in English Class yesterday Emerson’s statement “Good manners are made up of petty sacrifice.”
The sound of the rain pattering on the roof and rushing thru the spouting was very sweet to the ear, for it sounded like spring. I looked out of the windows for for a few moments. The rain was driving down very hard, but came almost straight down. The sky, tho covered with clouds, was strangely lit – a strange light that reminded me strongly of April days. Trees were wet and shining and glittered with drops of sparkling water that dropped continually. But most pleasant of all were the lawns nearby – they seemed actually to be getting greener!
When we came of school to-night everything was changed: The wind was colder now and was coming from the west, driving grey cheerless clouds before it. It had stopping and sidewalks were drying off from the winds
