forth with radiant light; the wind was intensely cold and continually roared and shrieked thru trees and around corners.
In the evening Joe had his St. Patrick’s Day Cark party. Teddy, Dutch and Bill Tomlinsen, King and Smiley Reich, Bill K., Bobby and Gilby were the guests. While waiting for the latter two we played two sets of Pedro. Then when they came we played at three tables. When the head table got 25, they rang a bell and all had to quit, move up, and change partners. We played eight games and had lots of fun. I won seven games, King six, Fred, six, and Bill, Bill and King had been contending for first prize but King marched off with it - an arts and craft stick-pin. Teddy and Dutch, each with two games, cut for the booby prize which Dutch won. Then lunch was brought in, consisting of pimento sandwiches and salad, green and white ice-cream, and cake. After lunch we all played “500”, Bill and I teaching Gibby and Bobby.[i]

This was the coldest day of the winter. It was cloudy, the sun only shining a little in the morning. The wind was very cold and blew straight and hard from the west.
