crossing muddy road, splashing water and laughing -the nearer to town we got, the more tired we became. At King’s we got drinks of cold water and some doughnuts which put new life into us for awhile after which we became more tired than before. We finally got home, where I managed to eat something and take a bath after which I felt a little better.
My eye got to hurting worse and so when Frances came home, we put a couple flax-seed on it, and after supper I laid down on the couch and fell into a troubled sleep. Suddenly I roused up, awfully tired; Edith had come down so I woke up enough to play a couple games of five-hundred.[i]

This morning I thought the robins outdoors had gone mad; for a long time their sang or sent their shrill cries thruthe air; it certainly made me made with delight to hear them. In vain did song-sparrow with his mate and a redbird attempt to drown them out the result was confused melody of notes in harmony with the soft grey skies.
