at once duly disgusted - but were unwilling to vote for Hess.
This afternoon has been a fine one. The sky was perfectly clear and blue; a cool wind was blowing, and the sun has been very bright, and now he is sinking into golden and yellow clouds, a ball of gold himself.
After supper we went up to Edith’s and after talking around awhile, Edith and Jim, Louise and I started to play “5OO”. Jim made it interesting by his manner; he said he didn’t know how to play, but I told him he did pretty good for a novice; but he did better than that for Edith and I could not win a game. At a little before nine we started a game. Finally Frances and Mother left and - well we finished the game some time after twelve: We took turns at getting set; once Louise and Jim were almost up to Five hundred, but then in a few hands fell down below zero, Edith and I sailing to 490 above. At this point Louise and Jim had 80, but Jim bid nine tricks on - trump (480) and made it! After refreshing ourselves with grape-juice we went home.[i]
