settled down to cards and had a fine time. Cheating was a feature of the games, Bill and Edna talking across the board, and Merle and I passing cards under the table. We found each other out often, but the laughter and fun went on.
When we put on our overcoats to go home, I found something hard in the pocket of mine, which proved to be a bottle of Vaseline. As we exchanged “Goodnights” on the porch, I remarked:
“Say, Vaseline costs five cents a jar”
They seemed puzzled and Bill giggled.
Thursday Dec. 15 1910
This evening after supper, having nothing better to do, we decided to go sledding, and to-gether Bill, Smith and I, went out to King’s, the only one among us who had a “bobby.” It was a bad night for sledding. All day, the snow had been piling down in white sheets and streaks, and after supper after a brief respite it began anew, the fine snow coming with a howling wind from the northwest.
