“Can’t you really stay a while longer? Here’s your hats”
“We’re so sorry you have to go, but really, the door is just around the corner.”
“One to the right, again to the right – Forward March! And there’s the door”
No one under the sun could stand this long, so the univited guests, amid hearty “come-again” and “So-sorrys” filed out, much disheartened over their reception. After this our fun proceeded smoothly. We had such a good charade that we made them allow us to present it – On our side we had two boys whose nick-names were both “Doc” (“Docs” Hess + Gallaghar) – we sent them in to-gether, After their limit of time was almost up, Miss Edna suddenly cried Paradox and then the all rejoiced.
Dancing followed, and as I can’t dance I sat on the couch and watched then. After they had tired of this, cards, were brought out, and we played “500” “Pedro” “Hearts” etc according to our tastes. Then came the break up – and I’ll never forget the end of that party. Upstairs, Zufall half-sickened and half-amused us (the boys) by his all too realistic imitation of a drunk man – no! he wasn’t drunk
