the board and challenged Bill to a game. He readily agreed and King was to play the winner. Altho usually I cannot play at all, this game was going in my favor. Finally I had four men to his two, one of which I was using to blockade one man of his and the other three to catch the other one. Anyone else would have done this in a few minutes but I don’t know the ins and outs of the game so I let him keep continually evading me. At length we were in such a position that I thought that no matter which way I moved, he could jump me and I hesitated. King, watching the game with interest, gave a little knowing laugh.
“Let us play this game ourselves King” said Bill exasperated.
King continued to laugh however, which made me think. Finally I saw it. By moving one of my men a certain way he would have to jump me, but would be in such a position that I would Jump him and the game be over. As I made this move, Bill, who had figured it out long before, got a little sore and remarked that I had only won by King’s help. I got a little mad myself and got up. I was to play King, but he urged me, I remarked:
