“Come on over this after noon will you?” he asked as he met me in the hall upstairs.
“Really I can’t” I replied reluctantly “I’ve got to paint that map for History and also paint some calendars”
“Aw you can leave that Map till tomorrow; it don’t have to be in ‘till Thursday”
“Yea but I won’t have any time next week; Tuesday night I’ll be up late. I have to be at the Opening.”
“Here don’t you cast temptation in Charlie’s way” cried Frances from the front-room.
“No sir Mr. Kirst” followed Joe “he’s a busy man – like me”
Without a word Bill went down stairs and out-doors. As I came to the door he called back:
“Well come over if you can” and hurried away.
This afternoon I painted the map and one calendar and then found it was evening. After supper I went over to Bill’s but he and the other fellows had gone to church so I stayed a little while and talked with Mrs. Kirst.
