“Nothing much. I’m sort of scientifically inclined”
“Oh Then you’ll probably be a lawyer”
I choked – I know it. Bill got red, but I don’t’ think enough
for Andrews to notice. The problem that choked me was what under the shining sun did science have to do with the law? Mr. Andrews then startled me by asking me what I intended to do. Taken unawares I blurted out”
“I’ve had it in mind ever since I was a kid in dresses”
Bill snorted – under his breath, if such a thing is possible. I said this with such evident seriousness that neither Kinkie nor Andrews cracked a smile; and besides not knowing what else to do I stared straight at both of them. Kinkie broke the spell.
“Burchie’s is drawing” he remarked.
“That so?” said Andrews.
“You bet. He’s a swell drawer”
While I felt like pummeling Kinkie, Mr. Andrews said:
“I know what you’d like then. I’ve got two big volumes of most of Gibson’s drawings.”
“I’d certainly like to see them” I said with all sincerity.
“Come up sometime when you have nothing else to do and I’ll show them to you.”
