Kinkie has a good voice – but the practicing!
“I’m going to take Norman west with me when I go”
remarked Andrews when they had finished.” Eh Norman.”
“You bet” said Kinkie, only half convinced.
“Do you come from there” I asked.
“Yes – from out in California.”
“On the coast?” Put in Bill.
“Yes – I tell you that’s a dandy place. Did you have fishing here?”
“Used to – a little” I said “The creek’s all full of sulphur now.” We used to catch some suckers almost a foot long.”
A smile half of contempt and half triumph spread over his face.
“Ah, then you don’t know what real fishing is. By George a person could go out in the bay and just put his line out and haul in the fishes. A person in a little while can catch enough fish to last a week, if you could keep them”
No reply came to this as none of us wanted to doubt him right out. Maybe it was true – but then fish – stories – he went on:
