     Fred came back at this juncture with the checker-board and checkers, and the report that Bud had shoved out the checker outfit without saying a word.  Bill won the first game from Fred, naturally, Fred that being a novice.  Then Bill and I played two games, I winning the first and Bill the second.  Joe then came down and asked us to play a game of hearts, and I was glad.  I hate checkers!
