Mother kept worrying and Bill + Fred and I kept wondering what to do; it’s a wonder Joe even got a poster done with such turmoil going on around him.  Soon our welcomed guests departed hence, to come back in a half hour to get Louise and it was all over.  Finally, getting tired of doing nothing, Bill and I made an agreement with Fred that if we could call up Bud and say, without any introduction whatever “Is Fred coming down there?”  That he would go down and get his checker-board.
     Fred started off.  Bill took down the receiver.  When he had Bud on the line he innocently asked:
     “Is Fred coming down there?”
     “I don’t know” in very sleepy tones.
