we went over to where the ascension was to happen, to see the preparations. There was Theresa putting wood in the fire, for this was a hot air balloon. A fit object to take our pennant up! Theresa seemed to me to be about thirteen or fourteen years old, but I imagine she was much only for she was married. Bill soon reappeared with the pennant. When he first handed it to our heroine she told him to find a stick for it. This we did and he gave it to her a second time. The balloon was now ready to go up. Seizing the pennant in her hand and seating herself in the trapeze, she gave a sign to her husband and moment later the balloon shot towards the sky, bearing Theresa was most important - the pennant.
