across under the arc light thus exposing ourselves to anyone who should be hiding. As it happened someone was undoubtedly hiding, as later events proved. We loitered around the front steps of the building for some time before thought of the conspicuous position we were in. Then coming to our senses, we made for the first alley below, where it was exceedingly dark, and here too was situated the same old telephone which had seen three pennants. There, we figured out, we would be inconspicuous and at the same time could watch whatever went on. But the mischief was done, and the evening proved a quiet one as a result.
