gathered around the pole to ward off attacks and sent a fellow up who procured the longed-for object and came down. This, at the time, we feebly declared to be a triumph for us, basing it on the assertion that they were afraid to leave it up any longer. But more than likely be tired of our fruitless attempts, altho they should have waited until we got disgusted and left. But the fact remains, that we were unable to climb the pole.
