I suppose, as each one denied any part in it, he said “I am very glad you didn’t, Walter, Thomas” as it happened to be; at least that was the remarks he made to me. I thanked my stars that I had been sick all the day before and being in bed from 10 that morning until 7 on the fatal morning. (I had gone after mushrooms and, having a cold already, contracted more). But, as Bill would say, “What’s that got to do with the cultivation of peanuts? So I’ll proceed with my story.
Of course nothing came of the investigation (and hasn’t yet)
