This has been a dry day as was yesterday.  Yesterday I didn’t get up until eleven o’clock or twelve rather; I awoke in eleven and it always takes a good deal of moral courage, for my to get out; I would’t have got up then, I don’t suppose if Bill hadn’t come over and told me it was almost twelve that I would have.  He had been intending to go hunting with King but he said that he too didn’t have the heart to get up and so he asked me to come over in the afternoon and play - checkers! 

Of course I agreed, and went over, braving several storms on the way, to borrow Bud’s checker outfit.  After two games I gave it up, and suggested going down to the library.  Which Bill agreed to.  The
