On my walk tonight, I got a special pleasure out of the raw cold wind, and the powdery snow that automobiles swished up into my face –
A dream – I was painting and looking over my pencil studies – the painting was of a huge window with rain falling on snow outside – in front I was to put a portrait of myself – the work seemed marvelous to me, as did the pencil studies, and a water-color of a young moon behind drifting clouds – I thought someone suggested that this could be used to illustrate the last hour before the end of the world.

While sitting at the dining table today staring abstractedly at the white cloth, baby vaguely conscious of the prattle of the children at their play, suddenly a rich yellow light seemed to pour in the windows from all sides – the early afternoon sun had pierced the clouds for a moment –
