43. The deeper I get into “The Journal of a Disappointed Man” the more tragic it becomes, more heart-rending – It almost seems indecent to watch a man suffer as he did.
September 9, 1934 – Sunday
A.M. to Calvary Church – leave Bertha for Communion preparatory service, and take children for a drive in the Park. Then we return for the regular service.
P.M. to Zoo – A pair of badger’s (sic) amused us greatly. They kept up an endless procession around their cage, chattering angrily at each other with mouths open in what had the appearance of a sardonic grin. One of them, on arriving to a certain corner, would turn his back to us, and roll completely over, and then resume his march. This he did over and over again in precisely the same manner each time. We also enjoyed the seal being fed his supper of small fish. He sprawled on the top of the rock-mass in the center
