I woke while it was yet night, a March gale blowing across the land; the moon was shining clear, and a brilliant star was rising in the east –
Up until the great that of a few days ago, it was yet midwinter; not yet as in other years had there been hints of March during February and even January – Nor had there been a thaw before – Today, a strong southwest gale blew away the murky fogs of yesterday - the sunlit earth has that silvery quality that only comes with March, the air has a new elasticity, and the clouds sweeping across the sky, a March quality – The world is suddenly re-created and young –
Mar. 12, 1934 –
By train to Rochester at 7:10 A.M. – the sight of trains moving back & forth, sending forth great fluffs of steam, made one think “what a wonderful world it is, after all”
