Quilts usually offer comfort and warmth to those they cover; but when they act as a banner of personal issues, they can do the opposite. Jennifer Regan confronts difficult private issues in her life in a unique way. She symbolizes the hardships she has endured in the imagery of this quilt. The quilt offers comfort to the artist as an expressive outlet; but could bring about discomfort to the viewer. As a glimpse into very personal moments of the artist's life, the quilt also portrays universal issues society should address.
Hey Kids:
Sometimes things happen that make us sad, or scared, or angry. It happens throughout our whole lives. When we feel this way, it is important to express our feelings in a way that makes us feel better. How do you make yourself feel better? How do you express your feelings? Sharing your personal story and expressing yourself through art, crafting, poetry, and writing can help you find comfort and overcome hard times. Even grown-ups need a blanket.
