The word identity pertains to the physical and mental qualities and beliefs that make a person. Patrick Foran illustrates the concealment of one’s identity with technology to create a new face that lacks connection and warmth. Humans thrive through physical and social interaction. Showing one’s face is a way to engage with another human being. Take that away, there is only a transaction of word, mistrust even. Have you ever felt you needed to conceal your identity?
Hey Kids:
Do you ever get so lost inside your phone, video game, or TV, that you forget about your surroundings or who is even in the room with you? Technology is so prevalent in our world that it is sometimes hard to resist or to take a break from it. It can almost feel as if you are wearing a heavy mask that is closing you off from the natural world. It is important to engage in physical human interaction. Behind this mask is a man, but we will never see his face. Can you imagine why his face is covered?
