The whimsical menagerie of “usual suspects” that adorn Ron Meyers’ glazed red earthenware sculptures and utilitarian pots suggests a satirical group of friends and foes that make up his world. His style is casual, prizing the characteristics of Japanese Wabi-Sabi ceramics that are appreciated for the beauty of their asymmetrical, imperfect forms and surfaces. This functional dish adorned by a leering rooster could also hang on a wall as a portrait already framed by a circular black border.
