Alice (Alicia) Makara (1925-2007)

In her review of the 78^th Annual Exhibition of the Buffalo Society of Artists held at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in 1973, Jean Reeves wrote, “I liked Alice A. Makara’s Silver Medal acrylic, “Shattered Mullions,” an explosion of tiny sticks of color, the kind that as children we used to shake out of a cylinder to build and make patterns with. Mrs. Makara’s colors sing, and her whole composition vibrates.”
