Brendan Bannon (1970-)

Brendan Bannon’s series on Lake Erie depicts the light and evolving character of each of the four seasons. It was begun in 2012 to accompany a CD he produced on the piano improvisations of Buffalo jazz great, Boyd Lee Dunlop.

Bannon is an internationally exhibiting photographer with work included in La Triennale di Milano, curated by Massimiliano Gioni, associate director and director of exhibitions of The New Museum. His work also was shown in an exhibition about Dadab, the largest refugee camp in Africa, at the Museum of Modern Art in 2017. Other exhibition venues include the United Nations headquarters in New York, Geneva, and Nairobi; the Nina Freudenheim Gallery, Chautauqua Institution, CEPA, and the Burchfield Penney Art Center, which was among other national college museums to show his daily dispatches from Nairobi. Bannon’s work is regularly commissioned by the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Doctors Without Borders, UNICEF, and the International Rescue Commission. He teaches in Kings College, London; NYU, and the University at Buffalo. His work is published by The New York Times, International Herald Tribune, The Guardian, Time, and London Daily Telegraph. —AB
