Portraitist Andrew Simson (c. 1837-1922) was said to be one of the first photographers in Buffalo to recognize photography as an art form. In 1896, Howard D. Beach partnered with Simson, who had been his friend and former photography teacher, at 456 Main Street, Buffalo, NY, and four years later he purchased the remainder of Mr. Simson’s interest in “Simson & Beach” to open his own studio at the same location.
