Niels Yde Andersen (1888-1952)

The coal-fired Huntley steam plant on River Road in Tonawanda, New York, near Buffalo, started generating energy during World War I. Its pollution is clearly seen billowing from the the elongated smokestacks behind workers arriving for their night shift. After decades of efforts to irradicate its environmental destruction, the Clean Air Coalition was successful in helping to close the Huntley Generating Station in 2016. Concerned citizens hope to improve conditions along the Niagara River, not far from Niagara Falls.
