Brendan Bannon (1970-)

Brendan Bannon is an award-winning photojournalist and Buffalo native who has worked extensively in Eastern Europe and Africa. This image is from a series of photographs that he took in various African hotspots in 2006-2007, commenting: “Projects in Nairobi slums, Somali refugee camps, the Niger Delta, Sierra Leone, and Botswana have focused on the price paid in the lives of the poor for chaos instability and poverty in the region." The artist looks beyond the chaos to see the essential humanity.
