Herta Kane's non-objective paintings represent her continual interest in depicting pictorial space. In 1971, she received the first-place award for a multi-panel, hard-edged, geometric painting in the Thirty-third Western New York Exhibition held at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. The work exhibited here is notable for its sensuous surface, with a heavy impasto and rich patina that looks like bronze. Two trapezoids of different proportions may be installed either vertically or horizontally with five inches in between, according to the artist.
