Knight creates the illusion of three-dimensional space by contrasting narrow areas of flat color, that appear to be the sides of an object, with diamond shapes of marbleized colors, that appear to be the tops of an object. The effect has a stepped motif, skewed in space where the light source shifts direction. This kind of imagery became even more complex with his later Paragon Series.
