This ironic jewelry design is actually a miniature sculpture representing the prevalence of car bombs in Beirut, Lebanon during the 1980s. Two major incidents involved American casualties. The U.S. Embassy was bombed on April 18, 1983, killing 63 people, 17 of them Americans, including the entire U.S. Central Intelligence Agency’s Middle East contingent. On October 23, 1983, the U.S. Marines Headquarters was bombed. --Nancy  Weekly
