Cecilia Evans Taylor (1897-1994)

This magnificent bronze sculpture captures the artist’s unique understanding of animal anatomy and articulation of movement, undoubtedly because she was a rider herself. Inspired by all kinds of animals, Cecilia Evans Taylor revealed the beauty these creatures convey through their graceful lines, regal postures, and innate power. She created bronze sculptures for public spaces throughout Buffalo, such as two giraffes in the Buffalo Zoo. The Buffalo Chamber of Commerce commissioned her bronze Bison at Church Street Park, and identical copies were given to the city’s sister cities of Kanazawa, Japan and Dortmund, Germany.
