Hungarian-born painter Magda Cordell McHale was known as a major figure in post-WWII British art. In her painting Untitled #8, she blurs the subject with the background, dissolving the divisive line between figure and environment. Internally, the figure reveals forms suggestive of skeletal structure and inner organs, further opening up a traditionally closed image.
