59 1/2 x 72 inches (Frame: 66 1/4 x 78 1/4 inches)
Gift of Tony Sisti, 1979
Tony Sisti’s large oil, Circus, is an example of a Works Projects Administration (WPA) commission that many Art Institute of Buffalo artists received. It was created as a mural design for what was then called the crippled children’s auditorium at City Hospital. The mural no longer exists. The charm of a colorful circus performance by healthy, lively horses would have brightened the spirits of young patients.
