gouache with charcoal on paper, design for cretonne
19 3/4 x 15 inches
Burchfield Penney Art Center, Gift of the Burchfield Foundation, 1975
In another design that bears resemblance to Japanese prints, Burchfield has created a scene that seems to vibrate with energy. As white and poppy-red flowers parachute through branches and leaves, wavy linear patterns dominate both foreground and background, graphically unifying the birds and milkweed.
