B & I to Arcade and Route 98. Another fine day, clear and warm. Autumn colors at their fullest. Walking around in Arcade, observing odd houses, and tree effects – the people are very friendly. Walking down the center of a side street to get the best effect of the [overarching] maple trees, (great masses of orange yellow) – a man observing us asked “Did you lose something?” – Even after we explained he still seemed mystified at our choosing to walk down the middle of a street.
East on 98 – A large beautiful grove of maple trees near the road looked inviting for our lunch, and we parked and went over. A beautiful shot – we enjoyed our simple lunch then walk around in the woods afterward (the strange plant that turned out to be wild onion). – While we were eating, the farmer started plowing a field by the woods. I thought it best, when we left to walk over his way & explain what we were doing. He was friendly and said it was all right.
Northward on 98, stopping now & then to admire trees, and marvel at the depth of the blue sky back of red & yellow leaves
Stop at Varysburg for refreshments, then on home.
