Last night a dream: I was in Salem, had been shopping “down-town” for my mother, having among other things a steak. As I was passing Doris’s my Uncle Jim was out in front. Feeling I could not pass now without calling, I went in. Mary came, but seemed cold and reproachful over some fancied neglect on my part. Shortly after my arrival, three friends of Mary’s, all “old maids” and dressed in the outlandish (to us) fashions of the Victorian age, and bringing with them weird musical instruments; it seemed this was a regular “get together” for them. Mary playing the organ. One instrument was a “vibra-harp” – an enormous thing, with huge rubber bands for strings – another was called a Vick and was like a cross between a harp and a zither, only very large. The room was not like Doris’s room at all, but long and narrow, lying east and west. On the north wall were numerous giant “old-fashioned articles”. The dream went no further.
