PM. For a walk thru Penna R.R. yards, thence north on the N.Y. Central to French Rd & home by Union.
A new boisterous day, scudding clouds & a stiff southwest wind, with fine hard snow at times. My recent illness has put me out of condition, so that in spite of the cold, I was in a sweat most of the way. My first walk in weeks, I was in ecstasy, and everything seemed full of interest.
At this distance in time, the strongest impression of my Fortune trip this Fall is the first morning I painted the sulphur vats; the hot sunlight, and the brilliant orange butterflies fluttering near me.
On my walk today, the spaces between freight cars appeal to me as being beautiful - and I rejoiced in the fact that the feeling of space between these crude objects seemed of vastly greater importance than what shade the political complexion of the world would take.
