One night it snowed softly & the trees were weighted with white; no wind stirred all day, & the next night it rained adding a coat of ice to the trees; yesterday the trees expanded against the grey windy sky like great misshapen feathers. Particularly did the poplars look like wet feathers.
I am going to buy a book, and write in it various headings, and at times I will open it and whatever the heading suggests to me there will I write the thought. The headings will be – Zodiac, Sky, Stars, Sun, Moon, Wind, Rain, Storm, Lightning, Snow, Ice, water, river, ocean, lake, Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, North, South, East, West, Northeast, Southeast, Southwest, Northwest, and the winds of all these directions, & all the Months, Frost, Dogdays, Squaw Winter, Indian Summer, Cloud mist, fog, Zenith dew, Winter & Summer Solstice, Vernal & Autumnal Equinox, Night, Day, Morning, Dawn, Mid-Morning, Noon, Midafternoon, Evening, Dusk, Twilight, Sunrise, Sunset, Moonrise, Moonset Road, Wood Path; Forest, wildflowers – Butterfly, Moth.
