Call from Mr. Oppenheimer – an issue I thought was dead. He said he wanted to buy one regardless of whether I would allow him 1/3 off or not – I made arrangements to bring the pictures to his home at 4:00.
Spent the afternoon putting three of them in frames and then drove out – a beautiful sunny afternoon.
They were waiting for me. When I came in they asked me if I wanted a high-ball or something – but I asked for tea instead – the room in which they want to hang the picture done in “Williamsburg Blue” a darkish neutral blue tending to the greenish side. The water-colors looked well on it – especially the “Spring Rain in the Woods” and “East Wind and Winter Sun” – we decided either of these two would look well over the mantel. Mr. O – wanted to try the “Wind-Blown” Hayfield in their bedroom – so we took it up – but the wall-paper (wine-colored rosettes on white) clashed with it. They asked to have them for several days to which I assented. Invited us to dinner April 15 – opening of the “Painters Painters” show.
