From Buffalo: BPAC Artist-in-Residence Entry 1, December 15, 2013

Snowed in for nearly twenty-four hours, I read the first four chapters of Nancy's The Sacred Woods and spoke on the phone with Richard Wootten, President of the Burchfield Homestead Society. My state of mind changed from frustrated by the weather back to feeling incredibly fortunate. At around 2pm today, the snow stopped and the sky semi-cleared to reveal swaths of light blue. I put on the new boots that I bought yesterday and drove to Gardenville. The winter landscape was magical; the five northern cardinals, transcendent. I made one picture before the snow started to fall again, quickly and heavily. I will return tomorrow morning at sunrise. On the drive back, I stopped at a nursery where I found poinsettias the same color as the birds.

Janelle Lynch is the 2013 Burchfield resident artist. She has garnered international recognition over the last decade for her large-format photographs of the urban and rural landscape. Widely exhibited, her work is in several public and private collections including the Burchfield Penney, George Eastman House Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, the Newark Museum, the Fundación Vila Casas, Barcelona, and the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, Salta, Argentina.
