Excerpted from a lengthy journal entry written on December 9, 1942 reflecting on November 16-24, 1942 trip to New York City. November 24 was the final day of the trip to work as a juror for the The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York 's exhibition, "Artists for Victory"]
Tuesday evening I had cocktails with Frank [Rehn] and the James’s – then Frank having a dinner date, I went alone to the Grand Central, where I dined sumptuously an oyster soup, an apple pie & coffee at the Oyster bar, a “meal” I thoroughly enjoyed. Afterward I went to a movie to kill time. It was thoroughly stupid, and I was glad when I finally lay down in my berth and homeward bound.
