Charles E. Burchfield (1893-1967), Constant Leaf, also known as The Steadfast Leaf, 1960; watercolor and graphite on paper, 39 x 29 1/4 inches (Frame: 46 7/8 x 37 x 1 3/4 inches); Estate of Dr. Edna M. Lindemann, 2007
At 4:00 Bertha called on the intercom to tell me that Evie Olmsted was here.
A very pleasant visit – with the usual good-humored badinage – She has a wonderful spirit.
She wanted to see the painting “The Constant Leaf” and when I mentioned swearing at a painting because it was so stubborn (Moonrise in the Woods) she wanted to see that too. So we went out to the studio – she liked both pictures, but especially the “Moonrise etc” — she called it an enchanted woods –
