The next few entries will focus on my favorite book, Buffalo's Delaware Avenue which was written by the late Edward T. Dunn, S.J. of Canisius College.
Not only will you learn about Charles Cary Rumsey, but all of the Rumseys and Carys and their neighbors.
I aquired the book through the Burchfield Penney Museum Store in 2005. The Burchfield Penney had a contest asking what you love about the Burchfield (then at Rockwell Hall). I won a gift certificate to the shop, and promptly used it to buy the book.
The only fault I find with the book is there is no index. This forces me to scan until I find the information I know I read before. The upside to this is finding out bits of information that are revelant at the moment, but had not been previously.
When not time traveling, working out, or hanging out at the Burchfield Penney, Mary Beth Parrinello is the religion teacher in the Montessori program at Nardin Academy in Buffalo, N.Y. She also volunteers her time at Westminster Presbytarian Church, C.G. Jung Center, and Junior League of Buffalo, which was founded by Mary Harriman Rumsey, Charles Cary Rumsey's wife!
