Oct. 20 –
Robert Blair & his wife [Jeanette Blair] out in evening – (in the afternoon we had gone to his opening of exhibit of recent work at the art Institute [the Art Institute of Buffalo] where Cathie is going to school). He liked all the new things. Also showed him some of Martha’s watercolors and he was enthusiastic and suggested a show of her work at the Institute (date exhibition set for Dec. 1).
During this period heard word that I had been awarded an Hon. Mention ($300) at the Carnegie Institute for “Cherry Blossom Snow” and later on, that I had received the Philadelphia Watercolor Club Prize ($200) for “Mid-Summer Caprice”
Altho I always begrudge the time spent on frames, there were compensations in working outdoors in the most beautiful fall weather I have ever experienced. Day after day of warm bright sunshine, broken only by a rare day of rain. Only one slight frost, which damaged nothing except the Zinnias. Glorious weather which we will probably never experience again.
