Charles Cary Rumsey and Polo

With the International Horse Show taking place in Buffalo a few weeks ago, my thoughts turned to POLO!
Charles Cary Rumsey is described as a "sculptor and polo player" frequently. Certainly growing up in the ring of Buffalo as  he did, horses were a big part of life.

Troop I on Franklin Street (a.k.a. "the Hamlin House") was headquarters for Buffalo Boys who were in World War I and used their horse riding skills in battle.

The website "Anglican Examiner" notes the CCR "played on every US team in the national cup matches from 1913 -21".

Depending on what you read, polo connected "Pad" and the Harrimans. I have read he met Mary Harriman at a polo match; met her through her brothers who were his teammates; and got the job doing art work at Arden, the Harriman estate, because of the teammate connection.

When not time traveling, working out, or hanging out at the Burchfield Penney, Mary Beth Parrinello is the religion teacher in the Montessori program at Nardin Academy in Buffalo, N.Y. She also volunteers her time at Westminster Presbytarian Church, C.G. Jung Center, and Junior League of Buffalo, which was founded by Mary Harriman Rumsey, Charles Cary Rumsey's wife!
