P.M. got to work on the “Sept. Road” idea (based on a 1917 watercolor) – I had in previous years made 3 large drawings of this idea, one of them incorporating the 1917 watercolor in the scheme, but the time never seemed ripe – Now I decided to start anew on a smaller scale, and chose a 30 x 40 mount – I worked intensively on it from 2:00 to 4:30 – bringing it to a conclusion, working in the manner of an “on the spot” outdoor sketch. Bertha thought it a “beauty.”
